SUE Streetcar Debate Coverage

Posted on Updated on

If you weren’t able to make it to the streetcar debate last night don’t worry.  You can listen to it today live on Bearcast Radio at 10am on Explore Cincinnati.  The weekly show will broadcast the debate in its entirety and then move on to discussions about the debate and other urban topics in Cincinnati.

If that doesn’t work for your schedule just give it a day or so and the free podcast will be up for you to download, and a video should even be on the way soon (which will be posted here).  In the mean time enjoy these great photographs provided by our friend Jake Mecklenborg.

A special thanks goes out to John Schneider and Jason Haap for being so gracious to engage in the debate and share their thoughts with the general public.

Tried the Bearcat Radio. Just got a player constantly saying it was loading and doing a countdown. I guess the podcast will be up this evening ?
It’s still sort of a pointless debate with Haap instead of one of the “powerbrokers” like Smitherman or Gloyd.

Yes, the podcast should be available later tonight along with a video of the debate. This post will be updated with those links as they become available.

In the mean time you can listen to the debate, uninterrupted, at the following link:

The show today broke the debate up and analyzed the various talking points as they came up.

Jason Haap is now deleting, with no explanation, comments critical of the Beacons position against Streetcars.

The moderator of the debate mentioned to me that they tried to get Smitherman for the debate, but he was either unavailable or would not participate (not exactly sure which).

Ok, I’ve lived in Louisville for a good part of my life, and what is Jason smoking? Because I want whatever he is having. The trolley has done nothing for Louisville, nothing for downtown, nothing for its residents.

Adequate alternative transportation to cars is not a trolley. I’m sorry. People don’t go “oh, I don’t need a car, I take the trolley.” Or if they do, 2 years later it is “I had to quit my job because they moved the bus route and I can’t get to work.” I know friends that have been there.

Street cars can CHANGE the culture of transportation in this country in ways that buses simply cannot.

Obviously you haven’t been to the Beacon which is full of pro-streetcar comments.
