Modern Streetcar on Fountain Square Nov. 5-10th

Posted on Updated on

A message from Mayor Mallory:

Dear Friend:
I wanted to let you in on some exciting news: a Streetcar visiting Cincinnati.  It is going to be set up on Fountain Square on 5th Street and you will be able to climb aboard and check it out.  It arrives tomorrow and will be here through Wednesday, November 10 and will be open for people to tour from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm tomorrow and from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily after that.
This is a great opportunity for you and your friends to climb aboard and see a modern Streetcar up close.  This isn’t necessarily the Streetcar that we will have in Cincinnati because we haven’t selected our model yet, but it will give you a great idea of what you can expect when our Streetcar system is up and running in 2013.
I invite you to join me tomorrow (Nov. 5th) at 1:00 pm for the opening so that you can be among the first to tour the Streetcar.
The Streetcar is an exciting project for Cincinnati.  I hope that you get a chance to come to Fountain Square and check it out while it is here, and bring your friends and family when you do.
Thanks.
Mark Mallory
Mayor

This thing is a terrible idea! Hey, let’s cut police and firefighter’s jobs and a whole bunch of other necessary services so we can stimulate the economy with this redundant form of public transportation! Mr. Mallory, did you get the memo? Metro buses already go from downtown to Clifton!!

The funding sources being used to build the streetcar cannot legally be spent on police or firefighter’s salaries.

John, I’m guessing that not only don’t you take buses between Clifton, Downtown or elsewhere but that you aren’t even a resident of the city of Cincinnati at all. The residents of Cincinnati should make these decisions. Its interesting how Cincinnati residents don’t even think to express opinions about the governments of Colerain Township or Blue Ash…must be because their just too boring to even get out attention.

One of the more important aspects of the streetcar is the accessibility. Unfortunately, having the thing sitting up on top of a platform that is completely lost.
Hope people can get around that.

    @ Quimbob
The streetcar will most like have stops that are at curb level, and should be easier to get on and off of than even the kneeling busses.

    @ John
Did you just find out about this thing?

it is a shame that it took so long for provincial Cincinnati to take next step toward such a progress. Provincial residents who are against such a project please get out of your ” tri-state” box and start traveling the world. All the developed cities in Europe and across the Globe use public transportation ( trolleys, trams, subways, rails etc). Just try to see a bigger picture, for godness sake.
