Cincinnati Streetcar Positioned to Succeed

Posted on

On its first day of operations, our streetcar will have many advantages that the other modern streetcar systems that are currently operating did not have on their first day:

These jobs, attractions, and residents that are already present along the line will make our streetcar a success, and the new development created along the route will ensure our streetcar remains an important community asset for decades to come.

While I am a streetcar proponent. I am also an anti-Paul Brown Stadium giveaway to the uber rich Brown family. Please focus the benefits of the Streetcar on the attractions that will drive ridership which are two stadiums (the more popular plural form of stadium)- The Great American Ballpark and Nippert Stadium. Any mention of that boondoggle arena and streetcars in the same article is a dis-service to streetcars. If I am wrong and you can show me some projected ridership data that indicates Paul Brown Stadium is a major rider destination I would offer my sincere applogies to the write. Let’s avoid the hype and focus on the numbers. We need ridership for the streetcars to be a success and I am counting on the Reds and Bearcats sporting event attendees along with the thousands of downtown, OTR and up town fans that will ride the streetcar!

I would imagine that events Paul Brown Stadium would generate more ridership than events held at Nippert Stadium for four main reasons.

    1) There are more major events at Paul Brown Stadium.
    2) There is significantly greater capacity and fans attending events at Paul Brown Stadium (65,000+ vs 35,000).
    3) I would bet there are more people living in Uptown traveling Downtown for games at Paul Brown Stadium than there are people living Downtown traveling to games at Nippert Stadium.
    4) Paul Brown Stadium is closer to the streetcar line than is Nippert Stadium.

I’m not a big fan of the handout given to the Brown family either, but the numbers would seem to speak for themselves in this instance.
