Why does Cincinnati need Streetcars? (Short Answer)

Posted on Updated on

Cincinnati needs streetcars because they are a proven tool of economic development. The Streetcar Economic Analysis conducted by HDR and confirmed by the University of Cincinnati indicated that for every dollar the city invests in the streetcar we will reap $2.70 in benefits. Streetcars will help revitalize Downtown and Over-the-Rhine which will lead to new tax revenues from rehabilitated buildings and new residents. And by connecting our two largest employment centers, Uptown and Downtown, which combined have 54% of the jobs in the entire city, the streetcar will make Cincinnati more competitive at attracting and retaining the best talent, which is vitally important for the City to compete in the information and innovation based economy of the 21st century.
